Digimon Tamers is the third animated series based on the Digimon franchise. The series was first broadcast in Japan in 2001. The story takes place in the "real" world, a world where Digimon is just a franchise, composed of video games, a collectible card game, and a cartoon series. Here, three normal-day children Takato, Henry and Rika, had been battling using their Digimon cards against each other. Then one day, Takato's drawing of a Digimon came to life and the story goes on from there until they get to know about the Hypnos and the Wild Bunch who had, accordingly, created Digimon. One thing that made the tone darker than previous seasons was that when a Digimon died it turned back into data and could be absorbed by other Digimon, where as in other seasons the Digimon turned back into a Digi Egg and was reborn.
